What We Will Do  

We will be working in Western Tanzania in the Mara Region. In March 2007, an office opened in Musoma, TZA, for the purpose of translating the Bible into 9 different languages from this region. These 9 language groups in the Mara Region represent around 1.1 million people that have no portion of the Bible in their language! About 1.4 million people live in the Mara region, it is the most densely populated area of Tanzania with the fewest churches. Early translation work has now begun for 4 of these languages: Kwaya, Suba-Simbiti, Ikizu-Sizaki and Ngoreme.

We will be in Africa providing training and computer support to users in the implementation and maintenance of computer technology in both language and business applications. This will allow people to be efficient and effective in using this technology to accomplish Bible translation.Right now we are actively sharing the needs of more than 2,200 language communities that still do not have true access to even one verse of Scripture. We were surprised how unaware most of us are to the fact that there are still people that do not have God's Word. These people need to experience God’s Word in their heart language. When Cameron Townsend, the founder of Wycliffe went to Guatemala to pass out Spanish Bibles, he kept encountering nationals that spoke Cakchiquel and could not speak Spanish. They asked him, "If your God is so great, how come He cannot speak our language?" Some communities have never heard about Jesus at all. They have absolutely no access to God’s Word. For them, Bible translation can mean the difference between eternity with God and eternity without Him.

Bible translation is foundational to every part of Christian ministry. It leads to evangelism, discipleship and church planting. It leads to transformed lives as people learn to become passionate followers of Jesus Christ.
